Minutes of the meeting
of the Lothian and Borders branch of the RSPBA held on the 26/3/00 at
the West End Hotel Edinburgh. Matters arising: The branch proposal for a change of rule was passed at the associations AGM. See Dec 99. There was some discussion on the web site for the branch being offered by Ian Kirkland. Information could be sent to Ian Kirkland for inclusion in the web site. A group is to be set up to look into the gathering of information for the site, A letter is to be sent to all branch bands asking what information they would like to see about their band son the site and to name a contact for the band. Some branch trophys are in a bit of a state. A photographic record is to made of all branch trophies during the coming season. It was suggested that if trophy winners do not get the trophy engraved then the branch would engrave the trophy and bill the band. This will be put forward at the next branch AGM. Lothian and Borders Police are to be reassessed, hopefully before Dunbar. Secs report: Letters have been sent to various organization's re grants for education. The Scottish Arts Council has sent a form to be returned by 10th April. Discussion on the
complicated and complex procedure in applying. It was suggested that a
subcommittee be formed to look into this. Suggested that meetings be held
during the season to discuss progress. Meetings could be before the start
of contests. Treasurers report: Current bank balance
£4800. Education fund £4800. Figures include £2000 from
Melrose. The lap top has yet to be paid (£1300) some bills for the
structured learning are awaited. AOCB: Talk about localized meeting of outlying bands to send spokesman to branch meeting with opinions. There are problems even with local bands attending branch meetings. Only 16 branch bands sent reps to Association AGM. Asked if all votes could be counted at association's AGM. Also if secret ballots could be used. A letter is to be sent to HQ regarding the report times for Drum Majors at major comps. They are to be asked why they are so early for dress in the morning and such a length of time before the flourish part of their contest. Bill Quinn is the next trophy convener for RSPBA. As the West End Hotel seems to be such a cold room for the Branch meetings, and it seems that ownership has changed hands, it was suggested that they might be moved to another venue. This was agreed. The next branch meeting is Sunday 7th May at Beechwood Bowling Club Roseburn Street Edinburgh. :: from corstorphine Rd, turn SHARP right/(not sharp) left at traffic lights Roseburn Bar/ Glenvargil Car showroom (the one with the jeeps), Beechwood Bowling Club is about 100 yds on left.
